I needed a passport, which made it feel all the more real. I stayed at a resort on the Dutch side near Maho Beach, where we watched planes take off just overhead. It was my first trip out of the country, and I found myself on one island split between two nations—Dutch and French. The people were lovely (most spoke at least three languages!), the beaches were stunning, the water a sparkling turquoise, and the food? Absolutely incredible.
